One misconception I occasionally encounter is the idea that long-term support exists to avoid upgrading altogether.
That's not how we view it at OpenLogic. We see LTS as a bridge, not a destination. It’s not a permanent fix, but a necessary step on the path to modernization for many organizations.
For those on MySQL 5.7 or 8.0, some will ultimately move to MySQL 8.4 and newer LTS releases. Others may determine that MariaDB, PostgreSQL, or another platform aligns better with their long-term goals.
The right answer depends on the organization's architecture, business requirements, compliance obligations, and future plans. The important thing is having the freedom to make that decision deliberately rather than reactively, and guidance from experts whose recommendations aren’t tied to any one platform or ecosystem.
