OpenUpdate: Stay Current with New Open Source Releases

Open source communities are known to "release early and often," and this agility allows for prompt redressal of bugs and security vulnerabilities. But while frequent releases are one of the reasons why many enterprises prefer open source software over proprietary alternatives, keeping current with the most recent open source releases can be a daunting task.

OpenLogic helps enterprises keep critical systems up-to-date, online, and secure through the OpenUpdate Notification, which provides timely information about the latest open source releases and security patches. OpenUpdate Notification newsletters are delivered to your inbox whenever there are updates to the OpenLogic Certified Library of open source software.

How It Works

Enterprise subscribers to OpenLogic Exchange (OLEX) receive the OpenUpdate Notification via email as soon as a new version or security patch is released by the open source community. Security issues are highlighted separately from normal open source version releases and include information on any available patches or workarounds.

Meanwhile, OpenLogic's team of engineers reviews the new release or patch to determine whether or not it meets the criteria of our 42-point certification process for open source software. New versions and patches that pass certification are added to the OpenLogic Certified Library software repository on OLEX — usually within a day or two — and additional information on new features and security issues is added to OLEX along with the file download. Any changes in package licensing and dependences are also noted on the package details page within OLEX.

Information on open source security patches and version releases is also posted on the home page of OLEX, so whether or not you're subscribed to the OpenUpdate Notification you can always find the latest open source information and downloads by regularly visiting http://olex.openlogic.com.
