OpenLogic Survey Highlights Enterprise Perspectives on Open Source Application Servers
BROOMFIELD, Colo. December 22, 2008 - OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software support and open source governance solutions encompassing hundreds of open source packages, today released the results of a poll of enterprise IT buyers who expressed growing interest in using open source application servers to help save money.
On Thursday, December 11, OpenLogic conducted a webinar entitled "A Comparison of Open Source Application Servers for the Enterprise" in which participating enterprise IT buyers were polled on their views on application servers.
The webinar compared the pros and cons of various application servers and examined several key considerations for selecting open source application servers, including EJB3 vs. Spring, EJB2 compatibility, and OSGi.
"What we found in our poll is consistent with what we see in the marketplace — that a large percentage of users are considering, planning, or executing a migration from proprietary to open source app servers," said Kim Weins, senior vice president of marketing at OpenLogic. "The question becomes more complicated as people decide what functionality they need — there are several open source options and each has their own strengths and weaknesses."
