Press ReleasesOpenLogic Survey Offers Insights into Open Source GovernanceInformal Poll Shows Corporate Acceptance of Open Source Is High, Yet Enterprises Struggle to Identify What Open Source Software They Use BROOMFIELD, Colo. June 26, 2009 - OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software solutions encompassing hundreds of open source packages, today announced the results of an informal survey that found while enterprise acceptance of open source software increases, more than 50% of enterprises using open source lack effective means to track what open source software is installed. On Wednesday, June 17, 2009 OpenLogic and leading open source strategy consultancy Olliance Group gave the webinar "Ten Elements of Open Source Governance in the Enterprise." As a part of this webinar, they polled the executive attendees — more than half of them from Fortune 500 companies — on how their corporations identify and manage open source usage. Key highlights from the survey found: Enterprise acceptance of open source software continues to grow: 18% of respondents preferred open source software and 41% evaluate open source software on equal footing with proprietary software. The ability to track open source usage in the enterprise remains limited: 60% of respondents reported that they have no automated way to track what open source software is used inside their organization, either because they don't have any formal inventory processes (19%) or because they rely on self reporting (41%). One a scale of 1-5, how open is your company towards the use of open source software (check one)? What techniques do you use to track open source usage in your company (check all that apply)? The entire webinar, including the complete responses to questions, can also be found at http://www.slideshare.net/OpenLogic/openlogic-ten-elements-of-open-source-governance.
