OpenLogic Exchange Expands to Encompass 130,000+ Projects

New Audit Capabilities Enable Companies to Ensure Compliance with Open Source Policies and Licenses

BROOMFIELD, Colo. January 22, 2009 - OpenLogic, Inc., a provider of enterprise open source software solutions encompassing hundreds of open source packages, today announced several enhancements to OpenLogic Exchange (OLEX). The new release of OLEX features an expanded open source library that includes over 130,000 active open source projects in addition to the existing 500 OpenLogic-certified projects. It also includes new governance capabilities that provide open source audits of corporate applications and enable companies to rate and track the risk associated with using particular open source packages.

"OLEX helps medium sized and large enterprises adopt, procure and manage their open source software safely," said Kim Weins, senior vice president of marketing at OpenLogic. "We've had several of our Fortune 500 clients ask us to expand beyond our certified library to include a broad range of active open source software that has not yet been certified by OpenLogic. This expanded repository will help our clients better research, procure and manage all of their open source software."

OLEX Expands to 130,000+ Open Source Projects

For the first time and due to requests from enterprise users - OLEX now enables customers to freely research software from a repository of more than 130,000 active open source packages. The software repository aggregates information from several well known open source repositories including SourceForge.net, FreshMeat, Objectweb and RubyForge. OpenLogic also filters projects to eliminate obsolete or inactive projects.

OLEX Now Includes 500 Certified Packages

Over the last year, OLEX has also grown the number of OpenLogic-certified projects to more than 500. Popular new projects include Artifactory, ClamAV and proFTP. Each certified project on OLEX has passed a 42-point certification process to ensure it is ready for enterprise use. OpenLogic also provides detailed information on each project and sells indemnification and community-backed support on each certified project in its library.

Expansion of Open Source Governance Capabilities

OLEX Enterprise Edition (OLEX EE), a SaaS product that helps enterprise proactively monitor, manage, control and procure open source software, has several significant new product capabilities.

Audit Corporate Applications for Open Source: OLEX EE now allows enterprises to easily scan, track and audit their applications to uncover open source and ensure compliance with policies and licenses. Companies can scan for open source using OSS Discovery, OpenLogic's open source scanning tool. OLEX EE then creates audit reports to highlight where open source is out of compliance with corporate policies and approved packages. Unlike other scanning solutions, OSS Discovery can scan application binaries without requiring source code.

Rate the Risk of Using Open Source in Your Applications: Based on feedback from enterprises who wanted a way to add their own risk ratings to each open source package they use, the new release of OLEX EE allows customers to calculate and track their risk of using open source in a particular application based on its license and how the company intends to use the open source package. Enterprises can also attach custom attributes to an open source package, such as your company's recommendation level for an open source product.
