Open Source Community Involvement

OpenLogic is committed to advancing the use of open source in the enterprise. In order to further that goal we created the OpenLogic Expert Community, founded The Open Source Census, and open-sourced a software application called OSS Discovery.

The OpenLogic Expert Community

The OpenLogic Expert Community was created to help bridge the gap between enterprises using open source software and the committers and contributors who develop and maintain the open source projects. The OpenLogic Expert Community is a group of software developers who are committed to the success of open source. They solve the problems encountered by enterprise open source software users and are paid by OpenLogic. In addition, OpenLogic donates a matching contribution to the non-profit open source software groups.

The Open Source Census

OpenLogic is the founding sponsor of the Open Source Census, the first global, collaborative project to collect and share quantitative data on the use of open source software in the enterprise. The primary goal of The Open Source Census is to promote the use of more open source software in the enterprise. We know that if we can show companies how much open source they and their peers are already using, they will feel comfortable using even more. The Open Source Census will also help the open source community and open source vendors to quantify their software footprint.

OSS Discovery

OpenLogic created the OSS Discovery software application to help enterprises gain a better understanding of the open source software embedded in their applications and installed on corporate workstations and servers. OSS Discovery finds thousands of commonly used open source packages installed on a variety of operating systems, including Windows, Linux, Solaris, and Mac. The Audit Edition of OSS Discovery scans for over 130,000 different open source packages and is available for download in the OSS Discovery downloads section. The Census Edition scans for about 1,200 different open source packages and is used for contributing data to the Open Source Census.
