Where’s Stormy? At OSBC

If you are at the Open Source Business Conference, stop by to say hi!

I think it's funny how each conference has a culture and a personality of its own.  Just think about it.

  • JavaOne.  Who do you see?  Lots and lots of developers – all attending very technical talks and BOF into the late hours of the evening.  People really passionate about programming technology.
  • OSBC.  Who do you see?  Lots more suits than you'd see at any other open source conference!  I like OSBC because I get to see all my friends in the industry – people interested in figuring out how open source fits into business, or the legal aspects of open source software.  Business people and attorneys – hence all the suits.

Matt Asay made a call for developers to attend OSBC but I think for the call to be successful they'd have to have something they wanted to come for – either technical talks or meeting people.  So the real question is whether legal open source talks and talks on open source in business will attract any developers.  If he really wanted developers, I think he would have done better to solicit some interesting talks from developers – that would bring more developers to listen to them.

What's your favorite conference and who do you see there?
